reframing the media narrative: trans bodies are not public domain

a wonderful post by a blogger i follow.  couldn’t have made the point better so i pressed it here for my followers.

especially the last few paragraphs tell of scenarios about which i as a mom to a young trans-girl have nightmares.

hopefully by the time she is grown and has left home enough enlightenment and attitude changes will have occurred in society at large to keep her safe.

until then, i will warn her… i must seek to prepare her…and i will never stop advocating for her and trying to educate other hominids.

  1. I am speaking for myself but, as one transwoman having her surgery in just 11 days, to continue to regard those who can’ never fully ever grasp the meaning of being transgender as “hominids” is both self-defeating and disrespectful. It makes no sense to me why anyone would want to alienate people who are possible allies in our cause to be seen for who we are as human beings, not as “hominids” or worse yet, as “curiosities.”

    • don’t know where the curiosities came from…but as for hominid, i am one, and unless the reader isn’t human, you are one as well . look it up > “NOUN Zoology
a primate of a family (Hominidae) that includes humans and their fossil ancestors.”
in my vocabulary, the word is simply an assignation of being the onliest existent members of the line and in no way represents a slur.
